Notre-Dame de Paris ist die beliebteste Sehenswürdigkeit in Paris. Die berühmte Kathedrale, die durch den Roman von Victor Hugo und die Filme über den Glöckner weltberühmt wurde, wird jedes Jahr von 14 Millionen Touristen besucht – das ist Paris-Rekord!

Doch wie genau läuft das mit dem Besuch ab? Wie lange muss ich anstehen? Gibt es Führungen? Kann man auch auf die Türme? In diesem Artikel findet ihr alle wichtigen Tipps für die Planung eures Besuches.

Geschlossen aufgrund eines Feuers

Am 15. April 2019 hat ein Feuer große Teile des Daches von Notre-Dame zerstört. Besichtigungen sind zurzeit nicht möglich. Geplante Wiedereröffnung 2024, anlässlich der olympischen Spiele in Paris.

Der Glöckner von Notre-Dame

Wenn man Notre-Dame erwähnt, denken die meisten Leute zu allererst an die Geschichte des Glöckners von Notre-Dame. Auch wenn die eigentliche Hauptfigur des Romans von Victor Hugo die Kirche selbst ist (der französische Titel lautet schlicht „Notre-Dame de Paris“), drehen sich die meisten Verfilmungen des Buches doch mehr um die Geschichte der Romanfigur Quasimodo, einem besonders hässlichen und buckeligen Glöckner, der in den Türmen der Kathedrale lebt und sich unsterblich in die wunderschöne Zigeunerin Esmeralda verliebt.

Wartezeiten für die Kirche Notre-Dame

Paris ist bekannt für langen Wartezeiten und die jährlich 14 Millionen Besucher der Kathedrale lassen Schlimmes befürchten. Doch Fehlalarm! Auch wenn die Schlange beeindruckend lang aussehen mag, geht es wirklich schnell voran, da es keine Kassen am Eingang gibt. Nach maximal 20 Minuten solltet ihr in der Kirche sein, auch während der Hochsaison im Sommer.

Die Besichtigung der Kirche

Der erste Eindruck ist überwältigend. Sobald ihr das Gebäude betretet, erstreckt sich vor euch das 130 Meter lange und 35 Meter hohe Kirchenschiff. Das von den großen Fensterrosen in lila, gold und rot verfärbte Licht verleiht dem Gebäude einen gerade zu mystischen Charakter.

Die Orgel

Nachdem ihr etwa die Hälfte des Kirchenschiffs hinter euch gelassen habt, solltet ihr euch umdrehen und ein Auge auf die ausladende Orgel von Notre-Dame werfen, die sich unterhalb einer der drei Rosetten der Kathedrale befindet.

Das beeindruckende Instrument ist mehr als 700 Jahre alt und – bis auf einige Umgestaltungen und Modernisierungen – zum größten Teil noch im Originalzustand. Heute können sogar Organisten dank Sprach- und Computersteuerung bestimmte Teile einer Melodie automatisch abspielen lassen.

Die großen Fensterrosen

Sehr beeindruckend sind die drei großen Rosetten, die bis zu 12 Meter Durchmesser haben. Die Fensterrose, die sich hinter der Orgel befindet, ist aufgrund der Distanz leider nicht so gut zu erkennen. Sobald ihr aber das Querschiff erreicht, könnt ihr einen Blick auf die beiden anderen wunderschönen Rosetten werfen.

Die kleine Ausstellung

In hinteren Teil der Kirche gibt es eine kleine Ausstellung mit 3D-Diagrammen, bei der ihr mehr über die Geschichte und die verschiedenen Bauphasen der Kathedrale erfahrt – eine perfekte Gelegenheit, um euer Wissen über Romantik und Gotik ein wenig aufzufrischen!

Der Schatz von Notre-Dame

Rechts hinter dem Querschiff befindet sich der Eingang zum Trésor de Notre-Dame (dem „Schatz von Notre-Dame“). Hier könnt ihr euch verschiedene religiöse Objekte aus den vergangenen Jahrhundert anschauen (Vasen, Bücher, Zepter usw.).

Die Türme von Notre-Dame

Sehr, sehr empfehlenswert ist ein Besuch der 69 Meter hohen Türme von Notre-Dame. Achtung: Der Aufstieg mit 422 Stufen hat es in sich! „Demain, j’arrête de fumer!“ („Morgen höre ich auf, zu rauchen!“) sagte ein junge Dame, als sie oben ankam. Wer den Aufstieg überlebt, wird mit einem fabelhaften Ausblick über die Stadt belohnt.

Bei dem Rundgang bekommt man einen viel „intimeren“ Einblick in das Bauwerk als bei der Besichtigung des Hauptgebäudes. Man fühlt sich regelrecht in das mittelalterliche Paris von Victor Hugo zurückversetzt. Wenn ihr ganz oben seid, könnt ihr euch auch die berühmten Wasserspeier der Kirche genauer ansehen und in der Zwischenetage könnt ihr die zwei großen Glocken der Kirche bewundern. Falls ihr Höhenangst habt, solltet ihr wissen, dass die Wege entlang der Türme sehr eng sind. Gefahr herunterzufallen besteht jedoch keine, da alles mit Netzen und Gittern gesichert ist.

Der Eingang zu den Türmen befindet sich nicht im Inneren der Kathedrale sondern außerhalb, auf der linken Seite (wenn ihr vor der Kathedrale steht). Stellt euch auf ein wenig Wartezeit ein, wenn ihr am Wochenende oder am Nachmittag die Türme besichtigen wollt. Es werden alle 5-10 Minuten nur 30 Personen reingelassen, sodass es unter Umständen ein wenig dauern kann, bis ihr an der Reihe seid.

Audioguides und Führungen

Audioguide

Wer ein bisschen mehr über die Kathedrale erfahren möchte, kann sich am Eingang für 5 € einen Audioguide ausleihen. Als Pfand müsst ihr ein Personaldokument hinterlegen. Der Audiokommentar der Tour ist auch auf Deutsch verfügbar. Die Bedienung der Audioguides ist allerdings alles andere als intuitiv. Da steht Touristen schon mal öfter ein Fragezeichen ins Gesicht geschrieben. Ihr könnt während des Abspielens eines Abschnitts nämlich nicht einfach das Kapitel wechseln. Ihr müsst erst Stop drücken, dann die gewünschte Kapitelzahl eingeben, und erst dann könnt ihr wieder auf Play drücken. Die Teile sind außerdem ein bisschen älter, sodass sie eine Reaktionszeit von 2-3 Sekunden haben.

Führungen

Freitags um 14 Uhr und samstags um14:30 Uhr findendeutschsprachige Führungen durch die Kirche statt. Die Führungen sindkostenlos und erfordern keine vorherige Anmeldung. Der Treffpunkt für die Touren befindet sich direkt neben dem Eingang. Die Führungen werden auch über Lautsprecheransagen 15 und 5 Minuten vor Beginn angekündigt. Ich habe die Führung nicht mitgemacht, aber heimlich ein paar Minuten zugehört: Neben der Geschichte der Kathedrale erfahrt ihr z.B. auch mehr über die religiösen Gemälde und Kunstwerke, die in den kleinen Kapellen zu sehen sind.

Guide

Alternativ könnt ihr euch am Eingang auch für zwei Euro einen kleinen Guide holen, der die wichtigsten Informationen zusammenfasst. Nicht unbedingt notwendig, da die wichtigsten Infos in den meisten Reiseführern vorhanden sein sollten. Vielmehr solltet ihr euch die kleine Ausstellung über die Geschichte der Kirche anschauen, die ihr im hinteren Bereich des Bauwerks findet.

Sicherheitshinweise und Verbote

Aus Sicherheitsgründen ist es verboten, die Kathedrale mit einem Rollkoffer zu betreten. Außerdem dürft ihr keine Mützen tragen! Ein Rucksack ist kein Problem. Ich habe auch Personen mit Kinderwagen in der Kathedrale gesehen.

Nach dem Besuch

Was tun nach dem Besuch der Kirche? Hier zwei interessante Tipps:

Spitze der Ile de la Cité

Sehr empfehlenswert ist der kurze Spaziergang entlang des Seine-Ufers bis an die westliche Spitze der Ile de la Cité – ein sehr schöner Ort, wo kaum Touristen unterwegs sind und wo die Pariser oft bis in die späten Abendstunden picknicken und Wein trinken.

Ganz an der Spitze habt ihr einen tollen Blick auf die Seine, den Louvre-Palast und den Pont des Arts. Hier könnt ihr euch dann ans Ufer setzen und eine kleine Verschnaufpause vor der nächsten Besichtigung einlegen.

Die Bouquinistes

Alternativ könnt ihr von der Ile de la Cité wieder aufs „Festland“ gehen (südlich der Kirche). Dort erwarten euch am Ufer die Stände der „Bouquinistes“.

Mit dem Wort „Bouquinistes“ bezeichnen die Franzosen die zahlreichen Buchverkäufer an der Seine, die es schon seit mehr als 100 Jahren gibt und die vom Pariser Stadtbild nicht mehr wegzudenken sind. In den aufklappbaren Holzkisten verstecken sich Schätze aus den vergangenen Jahrzehnten, wie z.B. alte Comics, Retro-Werbeplakate und alte Bücher – sehr empfehlenswert, um ein etwas authentischeres Souvenir von Paris zu ergattern.
